A Relative Reminder: Why We Do This Thing
Dear Radiant Relatives,
As the calendar pulls its favorite relativistic trick; the closer September gets, the faster the days fly; we wanted to pause, take a breath, and remind ourselves (and you) exactly why we're all dragging coolers and dreams out to a field in Kansas.
Reso 2026 is not a festival. It isn't a concert, and it isn't a vacation though you may very well come home smelling of dust and possibility.
It's about art. Not the kind you observe politely from behind a rope. The kind you help build, the kind you stumble into at 2 a.m., the kind you become. Your art is wanted here. All of it. Especially the weird stuff.
It's about self-expression. Wear the thing. Build the thing. Say the thing. Be the thing. Nobody out here is keeping score on your weirdness, because around here, weirdness isn't a bug. It's the operating system.
It's about participation. Nothing at Reso happens because a stage manager cued it up. Everything happens because somebody showed up and said "what if…?" and then actually did it. That somebody is you. Every one of you is a co-author of this thing, not a spectator.
It's about community. The kind you build one conversation at a time, one shared meal at a time, one "hey, do you need a hand carrying that?" at a time.
And above all... it's a safe space to be yourself. The real one. The one you keep tucked in a back pocket most of the year. Bring them along. We've got room, and we've been saving them a seat.
Because here's the lovely truth, and it fits our theme rather neatly:
Everything is relative except the respect, the consent, and the care we owe one another. Those are absolute.
So as September 1 creeps closer (tickets, vehicle passes, theme camps, early entry, all the paperwork bits close then, and the website News section is where every form lives), let that reminder land somewhere soft: the logistics aren't the point. The logistics just clear the space for the magic to happen.
And while we are talking about feels, here is some required knowledge
The Lowland Streaked Tenrec (a spiky little mammal from Madagascar) is one of the only mammals on Earth that makes music like a cricket. It has a special patch of quills on its back that it rubs together to produce sounds, a technique called stridulation, used to communicate and keep in touch with its family group.
Think about it: this tiny hedgehog-adjacent weirdo looked at the "talk by chirping" option and instead said "I'll just scrape my own spines together and jam."
The Reso connection: A creature so committed to self-expression it built its own instrument out of its own body. If a tenrec can turn its quills into a back-up band, imagine what you can do with a field, some string lights, and a questionable idea at 3 a.m
