The Great Convergence of Deadlines

Hello, Chronic Procrastinators and Eager Planners Alike,

There comes a moment in every event cycle when the soft, gentle "hey, whenever you get a chance…" transforms into something sharper. Something with a date attached. Something that doesn't care about your busy schedule or your waiting-for-payday strategy or your "I'll definitely do that next week" mantra.

That moment is now.

September 1 is bearing down on us like a very organized freight train, and it is carrying four separate deadlines in its cargo hold. Let's unpack them before they unpack us.

🗓️ September 1: The Day Everything Closes

Four deadlines. One date. Zero mercy.

🎟️ Ticket Sales End

If you do not have a ticket by September 1, you do not have a ticket at all. There is no September 2 scramble. No "oh, I thought there'd be a grace period." No showing up at the gate with cash and a hopeful expression. The ticket portal closes, the lights go off, and you will be watching Reso 2026 from the outside, which is a profoundly less fun vantage point.

Buy your ticket. Today. Right now, even. We'll wait.

🏕️ Theme Camp Applications End

Do you have a theme camp? Do you want a theme camp? Are you and at least one other human planning to build something interactive, artistic, or gloriously weird that requires dedicated space?

Your application is due September 1. Not September 2. Not "when you finish designing the banner." September 1.

And here's a critical detail, read it twice:

Your space request should include everything.

Everything. Your shade structure. Your communal kitchen. Your art installation. Your conversation pit. Your riding bull. Your motorized couch. Your inflatable unicorn stable. Your storage containers. Your collection of mysterious crates that you swear are essential to the camp's purpose. If it's staying with your theme camp and not being parked in the main lot, it counts toward your footprint.

Vehicles that are part of your camp infrastructure or storage do not get parked in the parking lot. They stay with you. They take up space. Account for them. If you ask for a 20x20 spot and then show up with a 30-foot trailer, a school bus converted into a tea house, and a mechanical bull, you're going to have an awkward conversation with the placement team, and nobody wants that.

Measure twice. Apply once. Include everything.

🛸 Art Car Applications End

Your mutant vehicle. Your art car. Your motorized flamingo chariot. Your roving sound system on wheels. The application for driving passes closes September 1.

No application, no driving pass. No driving pass, no driving. Your creation becomes stationary art, which is still art, but considerably less roving.

🚗 Vehicle Passes End

Every vehicle coming onsite needs a vehicle pass. Not a parking pass, a vehicle pass. $10 per vehicle. Every dollar funds art at Reso and in the Wichita community. Sales close September 1.

🔨 But Before All That: This Weekend

The deadlines are September 1. This weekend is right now. And we need you.

Saturday: Land Prep in Hutchinson

9 AM to 3 PM. The last big push before the event. Clearing. Prepping. Making the land ready for the city we're about to build on it. No heavy lifting required. Just willing hands and a good attitude and maybe some sunscreen.

Bring water. Bring gloves if you have them. Bring a friend. Bring three friends stacked in a trench coat pretending to be one very tall volunteer—we don't care how they arrive, just that they do.

Sunday: Shade Structure Day in Derby

You read that correctly. Saturday is land prep. Sunday is shade structures. It's a full weekend of making Reso exist in physical form, and you are invited to both.

If you missed shade structure day before, this is your redemption arc. The sun is going to be brutal in September, and shade is what stands between us and a very crispy burnout community. Come help build it, and take a dip in the pool thereafter. Come be the reason someone finds a cool spot to sit in 5 or so weeks.

💩 An Unrelated But Genuinely Remarkable Fact

Wombat poop is cube-shaped.

We have no segue for this. No clever thematic tie-in. No metaphor about how deadlines are also cube-shaped if you squint hard enough. It's simply one of the strangest and most wonderful facts in the animal kingdom, and we felt you deserved to know it.

Wombats produce roughly 80 to 100 cubes per night, which they stack as territorial markers. The cubes don't roll away, which is exactly the point. Scientists studied this for years and discovered it's due to the varying elasticity of the wombat's intestinal walls. Nature invented the square before humans did, and it did so in the digestive tract of a fuzzy Australian marsupial.

Why are we telling you this? Because newsletters that only contain deadlines are stressful. Because wonder comes in many forms. Because now you know something you didn't know before, and that's never a waste.

Back to the deadlines.

🧠 A Moment of Relative Reflection

September 1 is not arbitrary. It's the point at which we need to know who's coming, what they're bringing, how much space they need, and how many vehicles will be onsite. It's the date when planning stops being a flexible, evolving conversation and starts being a fixed blueprint.

After September 1, we stop guessing and start building in earnest. We know layouts. We know placements. We know headcounts. We know which art cars are roaming and which vehicles are parked.

Your application is not a suggestion. It's a promise. And we're building around those promises.

Don't make us build around a promise you didn't keep.

📬 Questions? Comments? Existential Concerns?

If you have questions or comments about anything Reso-related, tickets, theme camps, art cars, vehicle passes, volunteering, land prep, shade structures, or anything else tangentially connected to this glorious dust-covered endeavor, please send us an email:

Real humans read that inbox. Real humans respond. It's practically magic.

However. And this is important.

Please do not email us about:

  • The weather. We do not control it. We cannot predict it with more accuracy than whatever app you already checked.

  • The news. We are not journalists. We are burners. Very different skill set.

  • The shape of wombat poop. We have already covered this. It is cube-shaped. The science is settled. There will be no further updates on this topic at this time.

Anything else? ec@wichitaburners.org. Fire away.

🎪 In Summary: What To Do Right Now

  1. Buy your ticket. If you haven't already. Seriously. Stop reading and do it.

  2. Submit your theme camp application. With accurate space needs. Include everything. The bull. The bus. The mysterious crates.

  3. Apply for your art car driving pass. If it moves and it shouldn't, but you want it to anyway.

  4. Buy your vehicle pass. $10. Supports art. Easy.

  5. Come to land prep Saturday. Hutchinson. 9 AM. No heavy lifting.

  6. Come to shade structure day Sunday. Derby. Be a shade hero.

  7. Volunteer for the event. Four hours. One meal. Eternal gratitude.

  8. Tell someone about wombat poop. Keep the wonder alive.

  9. Email ec@wichitaburners.org if you have questions about any of the above, but not if your question is "will it rain?" or "is wombat poop still cube-shaped?"

Deadlines are relative, but September 1 is not. Mark your calendars. Set your reminders. Know that somewhere in Australia, a wombat is producing neat little cubes with no concept of deadlines whatsoever, and perhaps take a moment to envy that wombat. Then get back to work.

We'll see you this weekend, and we'll see you at Reso. Hopefully with a ticket, a vehicle pass, and a theme camp that fits perfectly in its allotted space because you measured properly.

Relatively yours,
